An authentic canoe from the last century, the "Benoît Champy", a sail and oar lifeboat built in 1887, is the pretext for discovering the history of sea rescue on the Picardy coast. The lifeboat and the lifeboat are classified as Historic Monuments.
About
From 1901 to 1956, the "Benoit Champy" made numerous trips at sea to assist boats in diffculty. Designed to operate in the roughest seas, this 10.10-metre long "sail-and-row" canoe, armed by 12 men, is unsinkable, self-righting and self-draining. 12 horses were needed to launch it. Nowadays, the lifeboat is classified as a Historic Monument and is scrupulously maintained by the association of the Red Pompons.
