About

The Somme Canal was built in the late 18th century to maintain commercial traffic on the river. The maritime canal, which empties at Saint-Valery-sur-Somme, is punctuated by numerous engineering structures. Locks, dams and swing bridges bear witness to the technical advances of the 18th and 20th centuries.
