The Musée Boucher de Perthes-Manessier Belfry is the result of the merger of two 19th-century Abbeville collections: the Musée d'Abbeville et du Ponthieu, founded in 1833 on the initiative of the Société d'Émulation d'Abbeville, and the former Musée Boucher-de-Perthes, which housed the personal and family collections of the Father of Prehistory. The current museum was rebuilt in 1954 around the remains of the former Hôtel de Ville, of which the Belfry, built in 1209 and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the Treasury building, which housed the town's archives, remain.
