Cité Médiévale de Saint-Valery-sur-Somme

Considered to be one of the jewels of the Picardy coast, Saint-Valery has its head in the clouds and its feet in the water. Great walls, bell tower, cobbled streets, old stone and wild flowers all combine to create its serene and tranquil atmosphere.

Saint-Valery-sur-Somme is an enchanting medieval town, a haven of peace and quiet where you can stroll along narrow, cobbled streets winding around the church (with 2 naves!) and leading to a little secret garden. Great historical interest combined with a superb view over the Baie from the ramparts!

About

The medieval city is a medieval-looking town steeped in history with its ramparts, towers, gates, fortified castle, two-nave church and beautiful checkerboard walls where carved flint and blocks of sandstone or limestone are intermingled. The squares and narrow cobbled streets invite us to take a bucolic stroll through the flowered streets and the half-timbered and corbelled houses dating from the 15th and 16th centuries for the oldest, to finally reach a magnificent small botanical garden called "Herbarium" nestled in the hollow of the ramparts.
