Chapelle et Cloître de l’Hôtel Dieu

Brick and stone building, built between 1688 and 1704, on the foundations of an earlier building from the 12th century which has kept its chapel.

About

Building erected between 1688 and 1704, on the foundations of an earlier building from the 12th century which has preserved its chapel. The brick and stone cloister and the chapel dedicated to Saint Nicholas, built between 1717 and 1719, are particularly noteworthy. This chapel was enriched during the 18th century with precious ornamentation, most of it in the baroque-rocaille style (paintings by Parrocel, wrought-iron gates attributed to the Vivarais), and completed in 1753 by a monumental altar decorated with statues, sculpted by Pfaffenhoffen. The public can also appreciate the museography with the reconstruction of a sick room and an 18th century apothecary.
