Les Etangs de Long

A unique and vast sensitive natural area with hiking and activity possibilities.

About

Les étangs de Long", the department's sensitive natural area, is located between the chaussée du Catelet and the commune of Long. This natural site is home to a wide variety of species. Take a stroll and discover the biodiversity that has developed on this sensitive natural area. Among the species present on the site, you may be lucky enough to spot protected insects such as the Bloody Cricket or the Delicate Agrion. In the shade of ash, beech and oak trees, small piles of wood provide shelter for animals and birds. The peaceful, aquatic atmosphere of these ponds invites you to explore the wetlands and reconnect with nature. From the lookout, you can enjoy this marked trail on foot or by bike, and join the GR123 and the river at the end of it.

Les Marais environnants des Communes is located in the heart of the Moyenne Vallée tourbeuse de la Somme in the commune of Long. The site is part of a complex of peat ponds (Long, Longpré-les-Corps-Saints, Hallencourt, etc.) and has a high heritage value of European interest. In fact, it contains more than 12 natural habitats covered by the European Habitats Directive (aquatic meadows, amphibious vegetation, peaty meadows, peaty aspen, etc.) and is home to flora (yellow sedge, thread sedge, marsh chickweed, etc.) and fauna (waterfowl, dragonflies, blood locust) typical of alkaline peaty marshes and ponds in Picardy.

Don't forget to visit the Maison Éclusière in Long or the Maison des Marais in Longpré-les-Corps for guided tours on foot or by boat. Bikes, paddles and canoes are also available for hire.
